In order to get the most out of this site, users need to learn how to use the search engine ("search the site"). Try experimenting with various combinations, using the explanation on the search page.
Because there is now a search engine on this site, it is unnecessary for me to keep some of the web pages currently offered, like "Autism News" and "E-News", so I am going to eliminate many of them, at least until and unless there is a way to, and I learn how to, keep up with such categories easily.
For instance if you type in the word "autism" as of this date (8/14/01), 323 references come up, many more than currently appear on that web page. Because some of the references have been in more than one place on the site, however, there were a considerable number of duplicates, many of which have already been eliminated.
In the current example, if you find you don't want to even think about looking at that many citations, put the word "autism" with another word or words, like vaccination or mercury or whatever, depending upon your interests. Remember to use the quotation marks when you want an exact two or more word phrase. You could also have a two or more word phrase with quotation marks around it, and then put the word and between the phrase and another word or phrase. If you include the word and within the quotation marks, it will search for a two or more phrase exactly as you have typed it, including the word and exactly where you put it.
If you type in a word representing the area you are interested in, for instance, "autism" or "E-news" and there are too many citations, try and narrow it by typing the first word, say, "autism" , the word and, and another word, say, vaccines (if that is what you are interested in), or "mercury", or whatever. Experiment a bit with using the search engine in this way. It can be confusing when you first start, but with practice it gets easier.
At any time you want to be sure to get all words related to vaccination, you can try typing "(vaccine or vaccines or vaccination or vaccinations or immunization or immunizations or immunisation or immunisation or immunise or immunize)", in parentheses, without the quotes. Unfortunately, the asterisk is not working, so you cannot type "vaccinat*" for everything starting with those letters, immuni* for everything starting with them. To combine that group with anything, put "and" in between the group and the other word(s) (without the quotes).
NEW NOTE: Now that Google is on the site, you can use the asterisk as described above.
