IMPORTANT NOTE:  The online search engine is not working properly at this time, and is resulting in far fewer documents than are available on this site.  The problem is being worked on.  Until this can be fixed, please use the google search engine provided on this page.  (Note, however, that Google is not as up to date as the online search engine, and that although you may get a larger "find", that it still will be missing some that would normally appear in the online search engine results.)

Please periodically check back.  When the system is operating up to full speed again, the online search engine will be added back.

Query Language

The text search engine allows queries to be formed from arbitrary Boolean expressions containing the keywords AND, OR, and NOT, and grouped with parentheses. For example:

information retrieval

finds documents containing 'information' or 'retrieval'

information or retrieval

same as above

information and retrieval

finds documents containing both 'information' and 'retrieval'

information not retrieval

finds documents containing 'information' but not 'retrieval'

(information not retrieval) and WAIS

finds documents containing 'WAIS', plus 'information' but not 'retrieval'

web*

finds documents containing words starting with 'web'
