This is about spam but it is not good news. We’ve seen only the tip of
spam. Hard to believe, given the amount of it now that plagues us, but
the future of spam is very bright – for the spammers.
Online chats, instant messages, cell phones with text messaging are all
vulnerable.
And one major problem about allowing people to post comments on websites
is that many more will be posting ads with links.
One problem is that spammers will do almost anything to break into our
mental screens.
We are beginning to live in a world of “almost always on” communication
and there are simply no reliable defense devices to protect us against
the onslaught of messages.
Forget about legislation, at least for the foreseeable future. You might
as well try to change the moon to a block of cheese.
This spam assault is reducing us to spam killers or victims of poorly-designed
software to fight spam (no matter what Bill Gates has up his sleeve to
protect the world from Spam. Gates couldn’t even supervise the development
of basic software to keep out the onslaught of viruses in his very open
Microsoft system.)
Sure, there will be efforts to find ways of deleting spam along new routes,
but this growing menace won’t be easily defeated.
So what do we do? Try to reduce the amount of time we’re “on?” Maybe. That
is, if we can fight off the addiction of being “on.”
This is a major “red flag” with no real solution in site. But we’ll keep
tabs on developments and update you as required.
