NY State Emergency Health Powers Act - NYS Action Alert

JOINT HEARING in NYC, March 14, 10 am

ASSEMBLY STANDING COMMITTEE ON HEALTH

Chair: Assemblyman Richard N. Gottfried

and ASSEMBLY STANDING COMMITTEE ON CODES

Chair: Assemblyman Joseph R. Lentol

Public Hearing: Public Health Emergency Planning and Response and the Model Emergency State Health Powers Act (MESHPA)

Location: Assembly Hearing Room, 250 Broadway, Rm 1923, 19th floor, NYC.

Please contact Assmb. Gottfried's aide, Lara Kassel, at 518-455-4941 for information regarding giving testimony or attending. Ms. Kassel said that those wishing to speak should contact her "as soon as possible" - fax form below to reserve a place on the schedule.

10 - 15 speakers have already signed up. Speakers will get 10 minutes each and should bring 10 copies of their statement for panel members to read (10 minutes = approx. 3 pages double spaced; please include contact info). Certain speakers (state health, law officials, etc.) will get more time. The hearing will probably end at 4 or 5 pm. Those not signed up who wish to make a statement can bring 10 copies to the hearing or mail to - Assmblyman Richard Gottfried 822 LOB Albany NY, 12248

Please note that the focus of this hearing is on MESHPA and not on the bills presently before the NY Legislature (S5841 and A9508 can be found at http://leginfo.state.ny.us:82/INDEX1.html).

I hope to post additional info as it becomes available on the NYVIC website at http://nyvic.org/nyvic/law/emergency/. Ms. Kassel said she could not see any reason why statements by experts unable to attend the hearing could not be included in those of others. If you are (or know of) a medical or legal expert who might like to have a statement read, please contact me ASAP. A double spaced two page statement would probably be best. Hopefully we can get your statement read, or entered into the record.

Please circulate this notice and feel free to contact me at frank@nyvic.org, or by phone at 212-722-6793.

Best wishes,

Frank Fitzgerald
