"Ethiopia: United States, Addis Sign Agreements Worth $17.2 Million" Africa News Service (www.allafrica.com) (07/19/02)
The United States and Ethiopia recently signed five U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) grant Agreement amendments, totaling $17.2 million (147.2 million birr), that will be used to support health, agriculture, food security, and education programs in Ethiopia. One grant, totaling 39 million birr, will be used for improvements in the country's health care system, focusing on immunization, child survival, maternal health care services, and HIV/AIDS prevention and care. An additional 79.6 million birr from USAID will be used for polio eradication and contraceptive procurement.
