"Congo: At Least 4,000 Cases, 24 Deaths From Measles in Kinshasa"
Africa News Service (www.allafrica.com) (07/29/02)
Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, is
experiencing a measles epidemic that has infected more than 4,000
people and led to 24 deaths since the beginning of 2002, said
UNICEF's Dr. Jean Kintwanda. In an effort to control the
epidemic, an accelerated vaccination campaign has been launched
in Kinshasa. Another vaccination drive will be held in Kongolo,
where a measles outbreak was reported two weeks ago.
