Let me get this straight. A vaccinated person died because the vaccine did not protect her, so now all students should be required to get that vaccine? - SM

“Bill Would Require Most College Freshman Be Vaccinated” Associated
Press (www.ap.org)
(07/09/01)
In Pennsylvania, the death of a student at Penn State
University from bacterial meningitis has revived interest in a bill in the state
legislature that would mandate that all college freshmen living in dorms be
vaccinated against the disease. State
Sen. Don White (R-Ind.) introduced a bill recently that would force all
students to get the Menomune vaccine.
Penn State junior Michelle Bahn died from meningococcal meningitis on
June 25. She had received the Menomune
vaccine about 12 months ago, but had come down with Neisseria meningitides, a
strain of the bacteria that is not susceptible to the vaccine; because of this,
one legislator said they might investigate whether a more effective or
comprehensive vaccine was available.
