Doctors' anger at
vaccine claim
DOCTORS’ leaders yesterday demanded that
the Home Secretary, David Blunkett, retract a statement that
people could obtain the smallpox vaccine from their GPs.
Mr Blunkett said in the Commons on Monday that he did not believe there was a problem in patients turning up at doctors’ surgeries and asking for the vaccine. But the British Medical Association and the Royal College of General Practitioners said they had not been consulted . The Home Office insisted last night that Mr Blunkett was merely telling MPs that it was something he wanted to raise with the Health Secretary, Alan Milburn. |
