Vaccination
battleground as equine flu forum begins - Horsetalk, NZ -
"'Vaccinating the horses against equine influenza is only protecting
against a disease that exists today. Unfortunately the virus can mutate
and have a completely different shape tomorrow, and a vaccinated horse
can catch it,' Dr Axon says. 'Vaccination simply masks the symptoms of
equine influenza and makes it even more difficult to spot. By the time
the signs of the disease are visible you could have a huge outbreak and
suffer the same devastating effects which the equine industry is still
getting over."

"It always amazes me that any doctor can possibly make the claim that
vaccines have been the greatest medical advance in the history of
medicine. You wonder just what they get taught in medical school. Here
are three medical articles which prove otherwise. I have a truckload
more, but you might get the drift. As far as I am concerned, anyone who
does not and cannot acknowledge that the best advances medicine ever
had to offer were in the field of public health, and disease
epidemiology, which included applying the knowledge of the importance
of proper nutrition, clean water, sewage, and housing, cannot be
trusted in any of their other verbiage. You don’t have to believe me.
It’s all in their literature. Look for yourself."

School
refuses 'cancer vaccine' - A Roman Catholic school has banned its
pupils from receiving the new cervical cancer vaccine on its premises.
- BBC - "Advice from the Roman Catholic Church says there is nothing
wrong with allowing the cervical cancer vaccinations to be given. But
governors at St Monica's - which has 1,200 pupils - have sent a letter
to parents outlining their concerns about the vaccine. In it, they
question the effectiveness of the injections and possible side effects.
The letter says a number of the school's pupils who took part in a
pilot study were subsequently off school suffering from nausea, joint
pain, headaches and high fevers. It states: 'We do not believe that
school is the right place for the three injections to be administered.
'Therefore, governors have taken the decision not to allow the school
premises to be used for this programme.'"

urges vaccination against HPV - The Windsor Star via Canada.com -
"'I highly recommend that women, almost of any age, receive this
vaccine,' Dr. Gordon Fraser said after his address to about 200 health
professionals at the Ciociaro Club. 'I think it's as important for the
21st century as birth control was to women's autonomy in the 20th.' He
told the audience his daughter will get the vaccine Gardasil at age 12,
and he said later he also will recommend it for his young son. 'All men
and boys -- give them the three shots and that'll help the women,' he
told the group. It is not now recommended for boys and men in Canada
and the U.S., but is 'gender neutral' in some other countries, he said."

Not Sex, Tops Parents' Concerns About HPV Vaccine -
Pediatric News - "The study was limited by the relatively small sample
and by the university setting, which might have provided more education
to parents and daughters than would other settings. But the results
suggest that even those parents and daughters who were counseled about
the HPV vaccine wanted more information, and further studies are needed
to determine the most effective ways to provide more education, the
researchers wrote. Many mothers who were not planning to vaccinate
their daughters within the next year planned to vaccinate them
eventually, they added. The study was funded by grants from Merck &
Co. and the National Institutes of Health."

Expert Makes the Case for Universal HPV Vaccination -
Pediatric News - "We should not vaccinate preteens and teens; there are
no efficacy data on patients aged 9-14 years. This age group is not at
risk for lesions and monitoring them “would be unethical and
unproductive,” Dr. Franco said. “Immunobridging” studies show that
vaccine-induced humoral response in preteens is the highest among all
groups, “which is sufficient justification for expectation of benefit,”
he said."

Is Physicians' Top Concern on HPV Vaccine - Pediatric News -
"Overall, survey participants cited reimbursement as the No. 1 hurdle
to offering the vaccine. In all, 95% of physicians said the vaccine
would not promote promiscuity or decrease the use of condoms. Of the
remainder, 3% were neutral on the issue, and 1.4% said that the vaccine
might promote promiscuity, according to Dr. Ko."
* ?September 2008 - Check
Gardasil Adverse-Event Data - Pediatric News - "The 585
serious adverse events included 20 deaths. There was no common pattern
to these deaths that would suggest they were caused by the vaccine.
Where autopsy results were available, the cause of death was unrelated
to vaccine. Other serious adverse event reports following receipt of
Gardasil were attributable to Guillain-Barre Syndrome, a rare
neurologic disorder for which the typical attack rate is highest during
adolescence. Further investigation by FDA and CDC found no increase in
GBS cases beyond the expected number among Gardasil recipients."

MMR vaccination,' said VanHook."

Cuts Could Create Statewide Vaccination Crisis - KTVN.com -
"Pediatricians have received notice that state funding to help offset
those costs and to fund those shots at the health department will be
cut in January. That leaves doctors left to shoulder the cost of buying
the medicine, storing it and recouping dwindling reimbursements from
insurance companies. Most say they can't afford it. 'So now the
possibility exists that they won't be available and there will be a
vaccine crisis in the state and that's what we're trying to avoid.
We're trying to avoid the crisis where no one will be giving the
shots,' says Dr. Patrick Colletti."

For
a Global Generation, Public Health Is a Hot Field (requires
registration) - Washington Post - "Many forces have converged to make
these subjects competitive for students' attention. For starters,
global health is a huge growth industry. The President's
Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief has spent about $15 billion in the past
five years, and funding is being nearly tripled for the next five. Bill
Gates and Warren Buffett are channeling billions into public health
initiatives. Malaria eradication -- which failed in the 1950s and 60s
-- is again on the table."
