Disease
'risk' as vaccination payment cut - An immunisation expert says
funding cuts to GPs could see the vaccination rate for children drop to
80 per cent, sparking outbreaks of whooping cough and measles. - The
Australian - "Since October 1 GPs have no longer been receiving $18.50
each time a child completes one of the six age-linked immunisation
schedules, which recommend which jabs should be given by 2 months, 4
months, 6 months, 12 months, 18 months and four years of age....A GP
can still receive up to $48.40 to perform an immunisation, and eligible
practices can be paid about $4200 per year if at least 90 per cent of
children among their usual patients are up-to-date with their
vaccinations, as recommended in the Australian Childhood Immunisation
Schedule....Parents are also motivated to ensure their children are
immunised because benefit payments for children under seven are
contingent on the child having received all recommended vaccinations
for their age."

Lima
a hotspot for cervical cancer - Doctors are regarded with extreme
suspicion in the crowded slums of Lima, Peru. Women, especially, are
wary of the medical profession, having swapped tales about a government
campaign of forced sterilisations during the 1990s. - The Australian -
"Two weeks ago, the project finally came to fruition. A long line of
nervous-looking girls aged 9 to 16 waited patiently with their mothers
to receive their shots. Under Douglas's watchful eye, nurses vaccinated
150 of the area's almost 1000 girls and carried out 170 pap smears,
many on women who had never before seen a gynaecologist. The gratitude
of the women was overwhelming, and the girls too, responded with big
smiles once they received a certificate for their troubles."

"Post-immunisation surveillance plays a key role in detecting possible
adverse events but interpretation of these temporal associations may be
complex and can be misleading. This can be problematic when trying to
achieve optimal vaccine uptake rates as it becomes difficult for
parents to differentiate between fact and fiction. Knowledge of
vaccines, their mechanism of action and their potential adverse effects
is crucial in providing clear advice to parents."

"From September 2008, a new primary immunisation programme against
cervical cancer will be introduced for adolescent girls. In the future,
we may see the introduction of licensed rotavirus vaccines against
infant gastroenteritis and broader use of varicella, influenza and
hepatitis B vaccines. Higher valency meningococcal conjugate vaccines,
vaccines against meningococcus group B disease and vaccines against
respiratory viruses are available, approaching licensure or in clinical

she received her MMR vaccine at a Springfield pediatric center. It
caused a high fever and seizures that didn't stop. The federal
government paid the Williams family $250,000 dollars from the Vaccine
Compensation Fund. Her father Gary says the family will not vaccinate
their two youngest children. The Centers for Disease Control recommends
31 shots by the age of six, 37 if you get a flu shot every year. "Our
vaccines are more purified than they were when you and I were children"
Springfield Doctor Robert Steele serves on Missouri’s Advisory
Committee for Childhood Immunizations. He says because of our more
purified vaccines, children nowadays are actually receiving fewer
antigens in their body even though they're getting more shots."

Role For Critical DNA Repair Molecule In Immune System - The human

own DNA. New research published in Nature shows for the first time that
a molecule devoted to DNA repair plays a broader role in this genetic

exposure of children to exogenous stimuli known to prime the immune

journal article (Pediatric Allergy

β-casomorphin-5 and -7 (BCMs) in colostrum and milk of 12
breast-feeding women with a history and clinical manifestation of food
allergy. The results were compared with the data obtained from a
control group of healthy age-matched breast-feeding women. The level of
BCM in women with food allergy was constant during lactation, whereas
the highest level of opioid peptides was found in colostrums of healthy
women with a subsequent rapid decrease in mature milk. These
differences in BCMs profile between allergic and healthy breast-feeding
women suggest that BCM content in the human milk may be an indicator of
allergic conditions."

Pharmaceutical
Immunity Inexcusably Sought Over Objections of Career FDA Officials
- InjuryBoard.com - "I start with the simple question: Does the Food
and Drug Administration exist to protect the public health, or to
shield pharmaceutical giants from responsibility for defective drugs or
inadequate labeling? After reviewing an
astonishing
report just submitted to Representative Henry Waxman's Committee on
Oversight and Government Reform, I regrettably conclude that for the
last 7 years the current adminstration has carried on an unprecedented
and relentless assault upon this agency with the sole purpose of
removing any meaningful protections for the consuming public in favor
of insulating pharmaceutical interests from responsibility for the
harms their products cause."

Kirby: New Study: Mercury, Other Toxins May Cause Autism - The

damage in primates, then isn't time to get rid of thimerosal (in flu

shipped overseas each year?)"

Warning - Recent studies hint that exposure to the toxic chemicals,
such as methylmercury can cause harm at levels previously considered
safe. A new analysis of the epidemiological evidence in the
International Journal of Environment and Health, suggests that we
should take a precautionary approach to this and similar compounds to
protect unborn children from irreversible brain damage. - Inderscience
Publishers, via EurekAlert! via ScienceDaily - "The researchers point
out that until recently research into the effects of pollutants on the
brain has been clouded by the lack of information on actual exposure.
Moreover, finding a direct link between specific problems with the
brain and exposure relies on statistical, or epidemiological, analysis
rather than case-by-case understanding. The researchers say that
neurodevelopmental disorders of possible environmental origin affect
between 5% and 10% of babies born worldwide, leading to dyslexia,
mental retardation, attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder, cerebral
palsy, and autism."

Newly-Released FDA Memos Hurt Wyeth’s Preemption Argument? - The
Wall Street Journal Law Blog - "Now, in the run-up to the arguments,
documents released yesterday in a congressional investigation show that
career officials at the FDA have dissented on the issue of the FDA
blocking consumer lawsuits against drug makers. As the WSJ reports,
internal memos contradict the FDA’s position in the Wyeth case. The FDA
says federal drug-approval and warning-label standards should trump
stricter state laws. But two FDA officials said in the memos that it’s
wrong to assume that FDA-approved drug labels are completely reliable,
or that they are based on full disclosure of safety risks by drug
makers."

of Gardasil—Merck's HPV vaccine. But sure enough, on the last page, in
the last ad, there's a little Merck logo in the upper right hand

co-eds to go to the student health center for more info, er, buy
Gardasil."

at vaccine-associated single nucleotide polymorphisms that would alter

pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV7) period (2001-2005) relative to
the pre-PCV7 period (1996-2000), from 13 cases to 65. Most of this
increase was associated with culture-negative empyema, which accounted

empyema. Our analysis indicates that non-PCV7 serotypes became more
prevalent at our institution after introduction of the vaccine."

- "Although meta-analyses have cast doubt on the wisdom of the
universal vaccination of children, high-quality clinical trials have
demonstrated efficacy against laboratory-confirmed infection. The
distinction between this positive benefit and the wider issue of
effectiveness against ILI in the community poses difficulties for
determining policy. Mathematical models examining this issue are
populated with data that are mostly estimated: therefore, the
sensitivity analysis is critical and the conclusions are invariably
accompanied by reservations. National policies based on demonstrated
cost effectiveness are desirable, but these should not become a barrier
to parents wishing to secure a benefit for their child or family,
provided there is clear evidence of clinical efficacy."

The
most heavily vaccinated are the most sick - letter - Allentown
Examiner - "I did not arrive at my distrust of vaccines without just
reason. My daughter, now 44 years of age, and the mother of three of my
five grandchildren, at the age of 4 was diagnosed with idiopathic
thrombocytopenic purpura, which 'experts' assured my wife (25) and I
(27) was a blood disorder so rare that her condition could only be
described as bizarre. In any event, after a long hospital stay, my
daughter's spleen, which had inexplicably began to destroy her own
blood platelets, was removed. No one mentioned her blood disease may
have been caused by a vaccine but decades later when my grandson was
diagnosed autistic, I discovered the blood disease that was 'rare' had
become just one of the myriad of problems of Gulf War veterans — all
heavily vaccinated prior to deploying to the Gulf area. Indeed, I have
since learned there is a danger of vaccines called molecular mimicry,
where a vaccine virus becomes a host in a patient's otherwise healthy
organs — the heart, liver, or, in my daughter's instance, her spleen.
In any event, three of my five grandchildren have problems. Two boys
(9-18) have serious allergies and asthma. One boy has autism. His first
cousin, a boy twin, was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes within three
weeks of receiving eight vaccines during a 'well visit.' His twin
sister broke out immediately in the pediatrician's office with hives
that scared everyone and a shot was administered to calm her system
down."

feet 3 inches and is over 200 pounds, but is athletic. He needs

vaccinated in California in 1987 (under the brand-new law, the first of
its kind in 1986) at 1 month, 6 months and 9 months old, we, the
parents, were not even informed about the contents of thimerosal, which

Teenager’s death spurs
vaccination questions, fears - Kiev Post - "Anton Tyshchenko, a
17-year old from Kramatorsk, died from a measles vaccine in May this
year. The serum was developed in India and apparently wasn’t tested in
Ukraine, according to the findings of two investigation commissions.
They also found the boy did not actually need a vaccination at all
because he had already been immunized twice. Tyshchenko was vaccinated
in school on May 12. A few hours later, he started feeling sick and
developed a fever. He was hospitalized the same night, but died eight
hours after the vaccine was injected. 'There is a direct cause-effect
relation between Anton Tyshchenko’s death and his vaccination for
measles and rubella,' Prosecutor General Oleksandr Medvedko said in his
interview with Fakty daily last month....As more gruesome details about
mass vaccination come out into public light, more Ukrainians are
turning away from vaccinations. Some data suggests that the number of
parents who refuse to vaccinate their children has grown two or
three-fold this year, and even more in Kyiv."

Measles has once again been declared an epidemic, and deaths have been
reported in the United Kingdom. In the U.S., 11 new cases of measles
were recently reported in the San Diego area, all among non-immunized
children. David Tayloe, Jr. M.D, FAAP, President-elect, American

diseases on our children. - press release - Sixty Second Parent via

Study:
Universal flu immunization lowers death rates - CIDRAP News -
"Viboud and Miller credited the authors of the study for the thorough
sensitivity analyses they conducted to control for factors that weren't
related to vaccine uptake. However, they noted that observational
studies lack statistical power. Though they wrote that the study was
likely underpowered to evaluate the direct and indirect benefits of
universal immunization, cluster-randomized trials might provide a more
powerful tool to evaluate the effects. 'The increasing pressure to
improve influenza control may eventually generate sufficient interest
in sponsoring such large-scale and costly randomized studies,' Viboud
and Miller wrote. 'Ironically, there is only a short time window of
opportunity for these studies—once pediatric or universal vaccination
policy becomes established, there is no ethical 'control' community
left.'"
