Now Drive Growth of Vaccine Market - Success of Merck's Gardasil Is
Responsible for the Large Increase Seen in this Sector - Genetic
Engineering & Biotechnology News - "In 2007, the world market for
preventive vaccines totaled $16.3 billion, up more than 38% from $11.7
billion in 2006. The market is predicted to increase at a compound
annual rate of 13.1% during 2008. This growth rate is unheard of in
other drug categories, especially since this is expected to be a
challenging year for the pharmaceutical industry. Few other drug
categories will see as many new product introductions and such
public-policy attention. The world vaccines market is dominated by five
companies: Merck & Co., GlaxoSmithKline, Sanofi Pasteur, Wyeth, and
Novartis. The four largest firms, whose reported vaccine sales exceeded
$2 billion each in 2007, held a combined 91.5% of the market."

Patience
is the key - Thedaily.com.au - "Here, Margo believes authorities
are not looking hard enough to discover why autism is so rampart in
Australian males. She believes from anecdotal evidence from parents and
a mounting body of science that there may be a link between
vaccinations and autism. She is not advocating an end to one to prevent
the other, but the funding of DNA swabs for infants before vaccination
to identify those for whom vaccination could kill any hope of a normal
life. Margo wonders whether the breaking up of innoculations into
smaller doses to would make autism less likely to occur. She wishes
someone would find out."

Fact-based decision making - The Leader - "The shot is entirely
optional – as are all vaccines – and is to be administered at school
along with other routine immunization programs, with parental consent.
Do you allay fears your daughter might be one of B.C.’s 150 women that
get cervical cancer each year and agree to let her have the shot? Or do
you prevent her from getting the new inoculation for fear of serious
side effects? A local school trustee doesn’t want the vaccine to be
offered to girls in Surrey schools. Heather Stilwell argues agreeing to
offer the shot signals the school district endorses the vaccination.
The problem with such an endorsement, she says, is that the school
district opens itself up to lawsuits if women come forward, now or in
the future, with health complications related to the vaccine.":

veterinarian, I took our cat, Beverly, to the clinic for
vaccination. She had not received any sort of immunizations for
two years. The doctor reviewed her status: 13 years old, 11
pounds, healthy, no fleas or other parasites, nothing abnormal, teeth
intact (claws too, I might add), tame and friendly indoors and
out. The vet then administered three injections in rapid
succession, rabies and two others. I expressed surprise -- I had never
seen more than one injection given at a time, to a cat or dog.
The vet said it was routine, updating all the immunizations at once, no
problem."

Daines, the Commissioner of the New York State Department of Health,

Emergency Rooms are not Ready for a Surge of Patients - Wired
Science - "In this month's Annals of
Emergency Medicine, Maryn McKenna made a particularly strong
case that emergency rooms were terribly overcrowded during flu season
and they would not be able to handle the surge of patients who would
appear in the event of a pandemic. McKenna started with a collection of
terrifying anecdotes from across the country: In Florida, patients who
should have been assigned to a bed were forced to sit in chairs with
numbers taped above their heads. Sentara Obici Hospital, in Virginia,
set a new record for emergency room visits in February and most of
those cases were respiratory. Physicians in North Carolina and Ohio,
who had taken the flu vaccine, got sick and had to skip several shifts."

U.S. bill would undermine drug maker gift rules - Rutland Herald -
"A U.S. Senate bill requiring the pharmaceutical industry to report
gifts and donations to the medical field would undermine a stronger
Vermont law if passed, according to state officials and advocacy
groups. The bill under consideration in the U.S. Senate would for the
first time set up a system requiring drug-makers to disclose the gifts,
payments, travel reimbursements and other financial donations to
doctors and others in the field. But the reporting threshold under the
proposed federal law is $500 — much higher than the $25 threshold that
a similar Vermont law, which was passed about five years ago. If
passed, the federal bill would preempt the state law."

NVIC Vaccine E-Newsletter
NVIC Launches "Stand Up Be Counted Campaign" To Protect Voluntary
Vaccination Decisions in America
Washington, D.C. - The oldest and largest consumer organization
dedicated to preventing vaccine injuries and deaths, the National
Vaccine Information Center (NVIC), announced today that it will launch
a national public education campaign to protect the legal right to make
informed, voluntary decisions about vaccination in America.
Citing the tripling of the numbers of doses of vaccines recommended by
federal officials for children during the past quarter century, most of
which have been mandated for school entry in many states, NVIC is
urging citizens to "stand up and be counted" and help inform and
empower citizens to insert informed consent protections in state
vaccine laws.
Founded in 1982 by parents of vaccine injured children, for the past
three decades NVIC has asked government and industry to individualize
vaccine policies and conduct prospective studies comparing the health
of vaccinated and unvaccinated children. The organization opposed
recent attempts to mandate the newly licensed HPV vaccine for all sixth
grade girls, as well as criticized the action of Maryland state
officials who forced parents in November 2007 to vaccinate their
children for chickenpox and hepatitis B or face stiff fines and prison
time.
"Twenty-six years is long enough to wait for government officials and
the multi-billion dollar vaccine industry to investigate the chronic
disease and disability epidemic affecting millions of highly vaccinated
American children," said NVIC co-founder and president, Barbara Loe
Fisher. "Vaccines are pharmaceutical products sold for profit and
federally protected from liability. One-size-fits-all vaccine mandates
must be accompanied by strong informed consent protections, including
broad exemptions for medical, religious and conscientious belief
reasons. Forcing vaccination is a violation of human rights, especially
when government guidelines to protect those genetically vulnerable for
being harmed by vaccines are non-existent."
NVIC's Stand Up Be Counted Campaign emphasizes prevention of vaccine
reactions through education, advocacy and charity. Adopting the slogan
"Give a Dollar For Yourself and For Every Person You Love," NVIC's goal
is to encourage public support through small $5 and $10 donations for
the national vaccine education campaign.
For more information about the campaign go to
www.StandUpBeCounted.org
where a free ad can be downloaded for placement in community
newspapers. NVIC's website at www.NVIC.org
is the oldest and largest consumer-operated vaccine information website
on the internet and includes an on-line Vaccine Reaction Registry.
NVIC's founders worked with Congress on the National Childhood Vaccine
Injury Act of 1986 to insert vaccine safety provisions into the law
mandating that doctors (1) give parents written information about
vaccine benefits and risks before vaccinating children; (2) keep
permanent records of all vaccines given, including the manufacturer's
name and lot number; (3) write down serious health problems following
vaccination in medical records; and (4) report injuries,
hospitalizations and deaths within 30 days of vaccination to the
federal Vaccine Adverse Events Reporting System (VAERS).
It is estimated that less than 10 percent of all serious health
problems which develop following vaccination are ever reported to the
government. NVIC supports the adoption of the federal safety provisions
into state vaccine laws with legal sanctions if physicians do not obey
the law, including failure to report adverse events that occur after
vaccination.
NVIC is endorsing the June 4 "Green
Our Vaccines" rally in Washington, D.C. and the call by
organizations representing children with autism to remove toxins from
vaccines and allow more flexibility in administration of the 48 doses
of 14 vaccines pediatricians give to children before age six.

Vaccine Approach Prevents, Reverses Diabetes In Lab Study -
WorldHealth.net - "In a research study at Children's Hospital, the
scientists injected the microspheres under the skin near the pancreas
of mice with autoimmune diabetes. The microspheres were then captured
by white blood cells known as dendritic cells which released the
nucleic acid molecules within the dendritic cells. The released
molecules reprogrammed these cells, and then migrated to the pancreas.
There, they turned off the immune system attack on insulin-producing
beta cells. Within weeks, the diabetic mice were producing insulin
again with reduced blood glucose levels. Results of the microsphere
study are published in the June issue of Diabetes, the journal of the
American Diabetes Association."

recommended by the CDC mandatory for all children to attend school and,
and for the first time vaccines would become mandatory for infants and
toddlers. The bill was introduced in Rules Committee at the request of
Richard Daines, the Commissioner of the New York State Department of
Health. The Rules Committee in the personal committee of the Assembly
Speaker Sheldon Silver (D-Manhattan). A-CHAMP is calling for rejection
of this bill and is demanding the passage of A5468/S3031, a bill that
would give individuals a right to a philosophical exemption from
vaccine mandates. This is no time to transfer vaccine decisions away
from individuals and elected officials answerable to the voters and
give it to obscure bureaucrats with financial ties to the vaccine
industry."

Advances in medical science demand ongoing scrutiny - Dr. Andrew J.
Wakefield, Local Contributor - Austin American-Statesman - "Faced with
an epidemic of developmental disorders in children and increasing
evidence of a link with childhood vaccines, Dr. Healy reiterated the
position taken by parents and doctors for many years: that there may be
a subset of children who, for genetic or other reasons, are susceptible
to developing autism following vaccination. Like many others, Dr. Healy
had initially dismissed the vaccine-autism link based on a
'superficial' understanding of the evidence gleaned from newspapers.
However, as she looked deeper into the science, she realized that no
study exists that demonstrates that our current recommended vaccine
schedule is safe."
