Showdown on Vaccines for Kids - Amanda Peet Joins the Fray in
Public Debate Over Childhood Vaccination - ABC News - "Dr. Paul Offit,
chief of the section of infectious diseases at the Children's Hospital
of Philadelphia, says much of this has to do with the fact that the
public, as a whole is, in many ways, more eager to listen to
celebrities than to researchers. "I think when Jenny McCarthy appears
on "Oprah" and says, 'I think vaccines harm our kids,' that has an
effect. When Amanda Peet comes out and says, 'I believe the scientists
on this,' that also has an effect," Offit says. "It's a culture of
celebrity, and we tend to trust what celebrities tell us." Offit, a
leading advocate of the current vaccine schedule, is the doctor whose
advice Peet sought early in her search for information."

concerned about autism are watching and wondering - What is normal
behavior and what are the early signs of autism? Today’s concerned
parents are swamping medical experts with questions and concerns. -
Star-Telegram - "Pediatricians report more parents are delaying shots,
asking that they be spaced out or refusing them altogether. "They don’t
listen to me. They don’t believe a word I say," said Naomi Grobstein, a
pediatrician with the Family Health Center of Montclair, N.J. "They
say, 'He’s not ready!’ or 'He’s too young!’" She reminds parents of the
lethal risk posed by diseases like measles, diphtheria and tetanus.
"It’s easy to believe these shots aren’t necessary, because we don’t
see these diseases anymore," she said. "I ask them, 'What if your child
is the one who spreads measles around?’" Complicating the picture are
celebrities who either blame or suspect vaccines, such as actress Jenny
McCarthy and radio talk show host Don Imus. Doctors complain that the
celebrities get an unquestioning ride in the media."

does just that - approximately 120 neurosurgeons and orthopedic

stealth pathogen. Her research has focused on the bacteria's key
components and how they stubbornly affix to and disseminate throughout
the body. "She's the only person I know of figuring out how the
bacterium attaches to the host," said Sheila Lukehart, professor of
medicine and infectious diseases at the University of Washington in
Seattle. In 2002, Dr. Cameron began her research in Seattle, working

of the lens of the studies, Gardasil was being rushed along more than
it needed to be.” Plans of mass vaccinations in schools have sparked a
national debate since the federal government earmarked $300 million

Adverse Events Worrisome Says Key Investigator (requires

reported are real and they cannot be brushed aside," Diane Harper, MD,
from the Dartmouth Medical School, in Hanover, New Hampshire, told
Medscape Oncology. ... Dr. Harper also suggests that physicians not
vaccinate patients with personal or family histories of the more
serious conditions outlined in recent adverse-event reports.
'Physicians have a responsibility to communicate risks to patients and
if patients and families are concerned, it is reasonable to hold off on
vaccinating,' Dr. Harper said. ... The cause of recent complications
remains a mystery and it is difficult to know whether they are linked
to vaccines. 'Nobody knows why we are seeing adverse events,' Dr.
Harper said. ... 'The scientific work to date seems to suggest that
aluminum salts in vaccines are safe,' Dr. Harper said. But she told
Medscape Oncology that she heard that 1 lot of Gardasil might have had
an accidentally high yeast concentration, and this might be why there
are problems. 'No one knows for sure,' Dr. Harper said."

Perhaps, in addition to finding those elements that could turn the gene

result in the autism genes switching "off" in the first place. Several
environmental factors have been suggested as contributing to or
exacerbating autism and its effects. These factors could be critical in
future research; they include infectious diseases, certain foods, a
maternal history of alcohol abuse, drug use, smoking, and some of the
preservatives used in vaccines, among others. Perhaps, if some of these
act by switching the autism genes "off," eliminating them from the
child's environment could reduce the punishing effects of the disease."

taken over our government agencies and wrote the vaccine liability law
over 20 years ago for its benefit. If you don’t look for something you
will never find it and that has been the situation with government
programs looking at the negative side of the deluge of vaccinations now
mandated. Virtually NO health care providers (FDA even estimates 1-3%)
report side effects once a drug is on the market. It is even more
difficult to determine in our youngest. The rejection of an
antipsychotic (Iloperidone) today by the FDA is a great example of big
pharma paying off the agency to protect profits. Everyone should do
your own research but please do not count on this government for
protection or assistance. Money talks and our health is suffering."

Discover Violence is Not a Behavioral Problem - American Chronicle
- "Researchers Wash, Glab, and Haakenson from the Illinois based
Pfeiffer Treatment Center have found that violent behavior is greatly
reduced with the implementation of biochemical therapy. This lends to
the understanding that violence is a biochemical problem. Biochemical
therapy is the discovery through testing and medical treatment of
biochemical imbalances, including metal-metabolism disorders,
methylation abnormalities, heavy-metal overload, blood glucose
imbalance, and malabsorption. Toxicity from environmental exposures is
commonly correlated with many of these chemical imbalances."

denied publication by medical journals, which are largely owned by
chemical and pharmaceutical companies with vested industrial interest
in the selling and use of the very products which negatively impact
human health."

* ►July 2008 - Combo
Vaccines Are Mixed Blessing - Pediatric News - “With combination
vaccines it does make it difficult for children not to get extra
doses,” said Dr. Bocchini. But, he added, the CDC's newly launched
online immunization scheduler, available at
www.cdc.gov/vaccines/recs/scheduler/catchup.htm, “might be an
additional way to make sure that children are getting the right vaccine
at the right time,” he said. The increasing number of new combination
vaccines brings up another important issue: Because physicians are
reimbursed for vaccine administration based on the number of injections
rather than the number of antigens given, use of any combination is a
potential loss of income. “The financial disincentive is substantial,”
Dr. Michael E. Pichichero, a pediatric infectious disease specialist in
Rochester, N.Y., said in an interview conducted prior to the ACIP
meeting."

May Not Raise Risk for Intussusception - Pediatric News - "From
RotaTeq's licensure on Feb. 1, 2006, through March 31, 2008, VAERS
received a total of 2,600 reports of adverse events associated with the
vaccine, of which 26% were serious. The most frequently reported
adverse events were diarrhea and vomiting, and 44% of all events
involved the first of the three vaccine doses. During that time period,
Merck & Co. distributed a total of 14,274,551 doses of RotaTeq.
Among the reports were 267 confirmed cases of intussusception, of which
91 were reported 1-21 days after receipt of the vaccine and 48 of those
91 (53%) were reported within 1-7 days. There was one death, which
occurred 16 days after receipt of dose two, Dr. Haber reported."

Parents Favor HPV Vaccine at Younger Ages - Pediatric News -
"A study of 61 parents of infants and children up to 10 years of age
suggests that parents may favor the idea of giving the human
papillomavirus vaccine at a very young age rather than during
adolescence. The study also found that parents with higher
socioeconomic status and education levels were more likely to reject
human papillomavirus (HPV) immunization for their children at any age,
a finding that could help target educational efforts for the HPV
vaccine toward those demographics, Dr. Ellen S. Rome said at the annual
meeting of the North American Society for Pediatric and Adolescent
Gynecology."

based on randomized controlled trials.”
* ►July 2008 - Patches
Among New Vaccine Delivery Methods - by Michael Pichichero -
Pediatrics News - "Transdermal patches, oral administration via food or
drink, and new intranasal vaccines are three exciting technologies that
I foresee becoming available within the next 2-5 years."..."On the
downside, patches do involve greater potential for local site
irritation. In the ETEC patch trial, application of the patch–which
involves scraping the skin with a mild abrasive prior to affixing the
patch–caused local pruritus in 67% vs. 4% with placebo, rash in 61% vs.
1%, respectively, and pigmentation changes in 7% vs. 0...."I'm also
excited about the use of transgenic plants such as potatoes and corn as
another alternative vaccine delivery method. Thus far in early human
trials of diarrheal diseases, transgenic plant-derived vaccines appear
to be safe and immunogenic without the need for a buffer or vehicle
other than the plant cell. Among these are transgenic potatoes and corn
that express the B subunit of the ETEC toxin, another transgenic potato
that expresses the hepatitis B surface antigen, and a third, the capsid
protein of norovirus (NV)."

All Pediatricians Follow Tdap Guidelines - Pediatric News -
"A lack of adolescent visits was the most frequently cited barrier to
administering the Tdap vaccine, with about 33% of physicians citing
this as a major barrier and 38% citing it as a minor barrier. The
majority of physicians surveyed said that they found no barriers with
regard to Tdap supply, reimbursement, record keeping, or the problem of
other priorities during visits. “Specialty-based differences in
immunization practices suggest an ongoing need for provider education,
particularly among [family physicians],” they wrote. The study was
funded by the CDC, and Dr. Dempsey reported that she had no conflicts
of interest related to her presentation."

Child Protective Services. Although the social workers who staff these
agencies are responsible for taking reports of all types of abuse and
neglect, they typically do not have any medical training. It is easy to
explain the implications of a broken bone or severe head injury, but it
can be more difficult to explain the dangers involved with failing to
attend specialty appointments, forgetting to give critical medications
on a regular basis, and/or not following through on recommended
therapies. Yet, if you are unable to communicate your concerns
effectively, the agency may not be able to adequately respond to and
help the family. Additionally, many child protective agencies are
understaffed, with large caseloads, requiring you to be able to explain
your concerns in as succinct a manner as possible in order to be heard."
