This is very upsetting. This article is just about the biggest bunch of fodder I have ever read about autism. This is so misleading to America, as to be so insulting to so many of these kids. This article mightily downplays the excruciating challenges that these children live with....the mountainous challenges they must overcome in learning tasks and language. How many of these children are just starting with new schools and teachers, who now will have an inaccurate, incomplete picture of them?

Following are some quotes and comments:

"Though its causes are unclear, it has a strong genetic component"

Autism is an EPIDEMIC. There has never been a recorded genetic EPIDEMIC. Ever. Even genetics professional journals, citing markers for autism, don't cite them as the CAUSE. The EPIDEMIC needed a TRIGGER. What is common to so many children, in so many countries, of so many varying environments, of so many varying diets?

Look at the timing of this article. How many kids are going to be asked to "catch up" on shots for school?
And now parents will be incorrectly reassured when they read this article, or by school staff who have read this article, that vaccines aren't the cause of the epidemic. Could the timing possibly be intentional?

Yet they don't mention the role of testosterone. They certainly don't mention testosterone vis-a-vis thimerosal. And extreme maleness does not account for the gut pathology or the gut-brain relationship and associated impaired gut function, malabsorption, and toxins getting to the brain."

He has obviously not lived the life of a severely autistic child.

Well, this could squash some research funding. 700 on the SAT math test is pretty good. Unfortunately, how many thousands of autistic children are lucky if they can give their teachers 5 objects upon request and know to stop counting at 5? After months of trying? Ever??

They've focused on social in this article. They haven't focused on the severe learning disability and dangerous lack of self-help and speech skills. And they haven't focused on real physiological damage, illness, pain, and behaviors caused by the destruction of bodily systems by vaccines.

They do not address what caused physiological destruction and dysfunctions that cause aberrant brain development and sensory integration disorders. They don't talk about sensory disturbances caused by mercury or the destruction mercury causes. They never tell us exactly how many kids have big heads, or too many cells of some sort, or how a vaccine-injury might have caused that. They don't talk about enzymes, or neurotransmitters, etc. disrupted by vaccine components.

This article focuses on Asperger's. And by saying it's not a defect, then they can exonerate drug companies.

The article (and extreme maleness) also do not account for the children's food allergies, seizures, and REACTIONS - EVEN DEATH - THAT THEY HAVE RIGHT AFTER OR FOLLOWING VACCINES! Little boys, previously not exhibiting symptoms of autism, don't become severely autistic the day after an MMR shot due to extreme maleness! Little girls don't scream for the day following vaccines due to coincidence.

None of our vaccine-injured children - be it with asthma, allergies, ADD, ADHD, Asperger's, or mild or moderate or severe autism - deserved the extra challenges that they got at the hands of negligent or greedy and corrupt persons. This epidemic of immunological and neurological debilitation, and the associated sorrow, was PREVENTABLE. We must endeavor to PREVENT further damage. We must not ignore. We must RESTORE.

This article sorely neglects the horrors these children face....the children's pain, frustration, and fear....and the behaviors that result. All of these must be investigated, explained, and overcome by acknowledging REAL reasons, funding REAL research - unbiased and independent - for confirmation of etiology and development of bio-medical treatments to implement REAL solutions. How many of our moderately-severely autistic children are going to be able to get a job as engineers, or coding inventory with the vaccine-induced brain damage, gut pathology, sensory issues, and resulting pain and behaviors? These are not tens-of-thousands of kids excelling at academic tasks and going to bed happily tucked in at night.

A Newsweek journalist has been asked for half-a-year to report on the REAL story. Yet, THIS is what gets printed -- that which deflects, deludes, and destroys. Who owns Newsweek, anyway?

Dear Dr. Baron-Cohen:

Are you aware that Newsweek has taken the article to which your theory is key, and has touted it on the cover - on innumerable doorsteps and newsstands across America, as well as reaching The Today Show audience - as "Why 4 of 5 Autistic Children Are Male"? Do you realize that, while extreme maleness may be alluded to, the synergistic effect of testosterone and thimerosal (the mercury component in vaccines) is not even mentioned? Do you not agree that this is a glaring and misleading omission? Have you, too, been innocently victimized by the pharmaceutical industry so that your theory has now been marketed presenting such an inaccurately incomplete picture of autism to such a widespread audience, that your words will indirectly significantly harm and kill another generation of children? How do you feel about this? Are you empathetic or systematic in your thinking about this? The Newsweek cover goes on to say "What New Science Tells Us About How Our Brains Work." Well, which "science" is this? Could you please cite the science? Was it the science such as in the video showing what mercury does to brain cells, imploding brain cells like the Twin Towers on 9/11? Was it THAT science? Was it the science of how many enzymes, peptides, and neurotransmitters are disrupted by mercury, with detrimental domino effects to other systems? Or was it the science regarding mercury damaging the immune system, making it prey to other viruses? Or the damage to the gut, then leaking toxins to the developing brain?

Perhaps the "science" that would interest America is the CDC Vaccine Safety Datalink's own science (from "Scientific Review of Vaccine Safety Datalink Information Concerning Thimerosal" June 7-8, 2000, Simpsonwood Retreat Center, Atlanta, Georgia). This said:

“we have found statistically significant relationships between the exposures and outcomes for these different exposures and outcomes…for two months of age, an unspecified developmental delay…at three months of age, tics…exposure at six months of age, language and speech delays…Exposure at one, three, and six months of age, the entire category of neurodevelopmental delays, which includes all of these plus a number of other disorders.

And,

"...I think it's clear to me anyway that we are talking about a problem that is probably more related to bolus acute exposures, and we also need to know that the migration problems and some of the other developmental problems in the central nervous system go on for quite a period after birth. But from all of the other studies of toxic substances, the earlier you work with the central nervous system, the more likely you are to run into a sensitive period for one of these effects, so that moving from one month or one day of birth changes enormously the potential for toxicity. There are just a host of neurodevelopmental data that would suggest that we've got a serious problem. The earlier we go, the more serious the problem...."

Dr. Baron-Cohen, doesn't the undignified, sensationalistic, tabloid-esque presentation of your work, which may result in innumerable people being mislead about the dangers of vaccines, to the detriment of innumerable children, concern you? This is not a situation of personality variants. Autism is a serious disorder and a serious epidemic. There has never been a recorded genetic epidemic. The autism epidemic and the seriously debilitating symptoms with which autistic children struggle does not represent a gift - it represents a tragedy.
