OMG- I actually had a moment in the local grocery store yesterday. It's the
one I rarely take Gabe into because he hates it worse than the other ones. O.K.,
he is starting to meltdown, and people are looking. Well I get tired of it
and say "He has autism; I ignore his bad behaviors, please do the same".
Well these jerks have done their job of publicizing that stupid Newsweek
"story". Because a woman said "Oh you should feel LUCKY to have a child with
that, from what I hear they are genius at most things.!!!!!!" CAN YOU BELIEVE
THAT?????? I saw a moment and I took it, the lines were quite long, and I had an
audience. I smiled and said loudly) I am very blessed to have my son, but the
autism, well I could very well live without that.
Okay, she looks at me in an appalling way and says WHY? I have this huge bag
of a purse which I keep a few envelopes of information that I give to any one
who will take them. I gave one to her, and explained what autism REALLY looked
like. They were all stunned.
This "story by Newsweek" just makes me sick. I also have sent a letter to the
editor. Sorry for the novel, but I do feel a little better now lol.
