Legislation is racing through Congress to reform the Vaccine Injury
Compensation Program. The current language in the Senate bill extends the
deadline to 6 years for filing a claim. This is better than the current 3
year deadline but will still leave many children out whose parents did not
realize that vaccines were the cause of their health problems.
Because of the number of lawsuits that were filed, Congress is trying to find
a way to stop the lawsuits and put people back into the compensation program.
Here is what we need AND WE NEED IT NOW.
If you have a child who is 6 or older and has not filed a claim in the
Compensation Program - and you live in a state of one of the members on the
following committees, E-MAIL OR FAX them right NOW. Do not put this off or it
will be too late.
In about three paragraphs tell them your story and the needs of your child. Do
not call anyone names or blame anyone. Just state your problem. Ask them to
open up the Compensation Program so you have a chance to get the help you need
for your sick child.
If you do not have an injured child please write anyway. Use your own words to
tell the Senator or Congressman how you feel and that parents are required by
law to take these vaccines and many families will be left with nothing to care
for their injured children unless they open this program up. There is $1.8
billion in the compensation trust fund and parents of injured children should
be given access to that money.
Please send a copy to NVIC of every letter you send so we can use it as we
meet with Congressional staff.
