Smallpox/smallpox vaccine

David Bloom's death tied to smallpox shot? - NBC correspondent possibly victim of 'toxic vaccine' before war in Iraq

New Fears About Smallpox Vaccine

CDC cautious after two deaths among smallpox vaccine recipients - Health officials could not definitively link the death of a Maryland woman to receipt of the vaccinia vaccine. - "Cardiac sequelae not foreseen"?  See "Whose job is it, anyway?" for another perspective on this claim.

Dangerous Memory Lapse for Smallpox Vaccinees

Smallpox vaccine: Easing fears on inoculations - A bill offers needed protections for physicians and other health care "first responders" who receive the vaccine.  - "In the past, out of every million people vaccinated for the first time, about 1,000 experienced serious reactions, and between 14 and 52 people experienced potentially life-threatening reactions. The CDC estimates that one or two people out of every million who receive the vaccine might die from it."  Already the number of deaths and adverse reactions associated with the vaccine appear to be greater than this.  Is it because they are coincidental?  Is it because the prior numbers were an under-representation of actual adverse smallpox vaccine events?  Is it because for some reason more people are having reactions now than used to? Something else?   Some combination?

Rep. Burton and Leading Scientists To Announce Findings of New Mercury-Autism Correlation Studies: "A Causal Relationship Appears To Be Established"

Debunking the thimerosal myth - The vaccine community is still facing the backlash from the decision to remove thimerosal from childhood vaccines.  - Besides using all kinds of scare tactics, and acting as if the risks of ethylmercury are known to be low, the writer is acting as if the only solution to the problems with multi-dose vials are to add a preservative, rather than to use single dose vials, which are thought to add very little cost to the product.

Hepatitis A/hepatitis A vaccine

Declines in hepatitis A seen after routine vaccination initiated - Direct causal relationship has not yet been determined, but rates are sign that vaccination is successful. - This vaccine is a good example of one where the seriousness of the disease is not particularly considered, while its incidence is.  Given that Hepatitis A can be prevented by good hygiene, the fact that it is usually mild or even asymptomatic in childhood, and rarely of long-term consequence when it occurs at any age,  and that experience with it confers lifelong immunity, a fair-minded person might wonder whether or not this vaccine is worth taking any risks for.

Vaccines in general

Many successes, many challenges with today’s immunization program - Most childhood diseases have seen dramatic drops in the last 10 years, but adult immunization needs to increase.  -  Very simplistic, one-sided article.

"Edible Vaccine Might Help Curb Dysentery" - How  many times are the "experts" going to predict that "Because the disease causes life-long immunity, it is thought that the antigen in the vaccine could cause prolonged immunity", prior to any long-term studies, and in spite of repeated evidence to the contrary?

Do Vaccines Cause Chronic Diseases Like Arthritis?  - Offit is kidding, right?  "These differences are reflected in the many well-controlled epidemiological studies that do not show a causal relationship between vaccines and autoimmune diseases, including multiple sclerosis, type 1 diabetes and chronic arthritis."  The "many well-controlled epidemiological studies"?  How many studies do you think there have been that are long-term, placebo-controlled (comparing vaccinated to never vaccinated), randomized, double-blind?  I feel safe in saying there have been NONE.  So much for the "many well-controlled epidemiological studies".
