"Warning as Chickenpox Season Approaches"
Australian Associated Press (AAP) (aap.com.au) (09/18/02); Skatssoon, Judy
Although chickenpox vaccines have been available in Australia for two years, though it is not on the childhood schedule, many parents do not feel the vaccine is important due to the benign nature of the disease. However, chickenpox kills about four children in Australia each year due to chickenpox-related pneumonia or chickenpox encephalitis. General practitioners in Australia can administer the vaccine for $50 to children over the age of 12 months.
