"US Funds Vaccination Efforts in Western Tanzania"

Xinhua News Agency (202.84.17.11/en/main.htm) (09/18/02)

The United States has agreed to provide $1.5 million to support health and education efforts in western Tanzania.  The funds, to be donated via UNICEF, will be used for an emergency meningitis vaccination program, HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment, and refugee education.  UNICEF recently launched an immunization effort to help stem the spread of meningitis in the region as the disease has been detected at refugee camps in western Tanzania, where some 350,000 Burundians are taking shelter.
