INTERNATIONAL IMMUNIZATION NEWS
"Thousands Get Hep A Vaccine After Supermarket Worker Infected in London, Ont." Canadian Press (www.canpress.ca/english/hp.htm) (09/22/02)
Thousands of people in London, Ontario turned out for hepatitis A immunizations at four makeshift clinics since a Sobey's grocery store produce clerk was diagnosed with the disease last week. Middlesex-London health officials were more prepared for the immunization program after Toronto had to immunize over 17,000 residents in August after a Loblaws clerk was diagnosed with the disease. Though Sobey's closed down for disinfection and discarded the produce as a precaution, health officials say the risk of contracting hepatitis from the produce itself is remote. Symptoms of hepatitis include fever, fatigue, loss of appetite, nausea, abdominal pains, dark urine and yellowing of the skin and eyes.
