"Tetanus Shots Available for Utah Adults"
Salt Lake Tribune (www.sltrib.com) (09/10/02) P. D2
Following a national shortage of the tetanus-diphtheria shot for adults, the combined vaccine is now available in Utah at public health clinics and from doctors' offices. The shortage--which did not include diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis vaccines for infants and preschoolers--was caused by Wyeth-Ayerst discontinuing production of the tetanus-diphtheria vaccine, leaving Aventis Pasteur struggling to keep up with demand. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that teenagers and adults receive a tetanus-diphtheria booster shot every 10 years.
