"TB Campaigners Sound New Vaccine Alert"

Paul Sommerfeld, chairman of TB Alert, is calling on the British government to take quick action in replacing the tuberculosis
(TB) vaccine that was pulled from the market early last month, saying "this is no time to be dropping the various safeguards." There were 7,300 cases of TB in Britain last year, and incidence of the disease increased 17 percent between 1999 and 2000. The TB vaccine was withdrawn due to fears that a batch may have lower potency; however, the Department of Health reported that it is in talks with a Danish firm to supply another TB vaccine
