"S. Africa to Produce AIDS Vaccines"

Three new AIDS vaccines are scheduled for manufacturing and human testing, according to South African scientist and associate professor Anna-Lise Williamson of the University of Cape Town's Institute of Infectious Diseases and Molecular Medicine.  Dr. Tim Tucker, the director of the South African AIDS Vaccine Initiative, said the organization will contribute $1 million toward producing and testing the vaccines, while an additional $2 million will come from the U.S. National Institutes of Health. Tucker noted that small-scale tests of the vaccines in humans could next year.
