"PowderJect Begins Phase I Trials of Powder Flu Vaccine" AFX-Europe (www.afxpress.com/corporate/AFX-Europe.htm) (09/10/02)

The Fluvirin powdered flu vaccine developed by PowderJect Pharmaceuticals of the United Kingdom has entered into Phase I clinical trials, according to PowderJect.  The drug is delivered in a powdered formulation through the skin, shot through with no injection using a one-time disposable syringe.  PowderJect will compare the formulation to its own Fluvirin, an approved liquid flu vaccine that is delivered by injection.  The powdered drug can now be produced at PowderJect's Liverpool plant; until recently, only the firm's Madison, Wis., facility could make the drug.
