ISLAMABAD, September 03 (PNS): Federal Minister for Health Dr. Abdul Malik Kasi Monday said that Pakistan has a global commitment to eradicate polio and it is now at the brink of reaching the goal of eradication of this crippling disease.

He was the chief guest here at the National Launching Campaign for Polio Eradication and Presentation of Polio Champion Award to President of Pakistan.

He said our aim is reaching at zero polio cases by the year 2003, therefor efforts have been redoubled by the Ministry of Health in this regard. Pakistan has been recognized internationally for its purpose in this cause, he added.

Kasi went on to say that Rotary International is our key partner in the Polio eradication and they have provided support in every way to help free the children of this world of this crippling disease.

Minister for Health Dr. Abdul Malik Kasi received the Polio Champion Award on behalf of the President General Pervez Musharraf from the Rotary International's representative Abdul Haiy Khan.

Abdul Haiy Khan said that Pakistan Government has done enormous work to eradicate this deadly disease and the President General Pervez Musharraf and Ministry of Health has played a pivotal role in this regard.

Abdul Malik Kasi presented a shield to the Attiya Inayat Ullah Federal Minister for Population on behalf of Ministry of Health for her contribution for development in Pakistan.

At the end, Abdul Malik Kasi and Attiya Inayatullah launched 3-day polio eradication campaign that will be start from today (Tuesday) by giving polio drops to the infants.

During the upcoming national round 75,000 team members with renowned pop singer and newly appointed ambassador for polio free Pakistan Jawad Ahmad will go house-to-house to administer Polio drops to all children less than 5 years. They will move throughout the country for three days in order to ensure that every eligible child is immunized.
