"New Meningococcal Vaccine Hits Australian Market" Australian Broadcasting Corp. News (www.abc.net.au/news) (09/16/02)
Supplies of a new vaccine against meningococcal C have hit the Australian market. About two-thirds of the meningococcal deaths in Australia every year are linked to the C strain. Dr. David Isaacs of Westmead's Children's Hospital noted that meningococcal C conjugate vaccines are quite effective, having reduced meningococcal C disease in the United Kingdom by as much as 95 percent.
