INTERNATIONAL IMMUNIZATION NEWS
"New Flu Virus Appears"
London Times (www.the-times.co.uk) (09/12/02) P. 16; Hawkes, Nigel
British health officials announced yesterday during the annual conference of the Public Health Laboratory, that a new recombinant strain of influenza emerged during last winter's flu season. The two common strains, H1N1 and H3N2 which have appeared since the 1970s, have combined to form a new strain, the H1N2. Health officials say the new strain is not sufficiently different from circulating strains to defeat the flu vaccine, but the subtype does demonstrate the need for vigilance.
