Financial Times (www.ft.com) (09/06/02) P. 4; Cookson, Clive; Davies, Chrissie

British biotechnology company Microscience, which already uses a weakened salmonella bacteria to deliver conventional vaccines, is teaming up with the University of Maryland to use the bacteria to carry DNA vaccines into patients.  The method was invented by the university and is called Bactofection.  The partnership will produce a range of oral DNA vaccines that target infectious diseases and cancer, working to boost a patient's immune response to tumor cells.
