U.S. IMMUNIZATION NEWS
"Maker of Smallpox Vaccine Cites Progress"
Washington Post (www.washingtonpost.com) (09/19/02) P. A12; Gillis, Justin
Acambis announced that it has packaged its first finished doses of smallpox vaccine and has made significant process in renovating a Canton, Mass., plant. The vaccine has shown 100 percent efficacy [evidence of immune response] in human testing. The company feels that it may be able to deliver millions of doses to the U.S. government by the end of the year. The government could dilute current stockpiles to vaccinate every American, but experts prefer to acquire purer and fresher supplies.
