Love Is A Political Issue
by Catherine O’Driscoll

From the earliest days of
Canine Health
Concern, I have believed that our
dogs are teaching us about Personal
Responsibility and Personal Power. I
believe that our animals are concerned with
our growth as human beings. I
also believe that the animals are fighting
for us, for the life of the
planet: they are holding the love vibration
until we 'get it'. I no longer
believe I am working for the animals. I now believe that I am working with
them.
When they get ill, they force us to ask
'why?' When they suffer, they prompt
us to find ways to alleviate that
suffering. They are leading us towards
becoming healers.
But how can you be a healer if politicians
have taken away the herbs and
vitamins you want to use?
Many people on this list have arrived here
because their dogs were ill or
died young.
Many have realised that the pet food their dogs were given did
not support life. They also realised that their dogs became ill shortly
after they were vaccinated.
They looked at the evidence. They maybe spoke to their vets. They read
articles and books. They joined discussion groups.
And then they made a
decision.
At this point, they jumped clear of their
vet's safety net, and took
Personal Responsibility. They stepped into their Power.
Not only did this change their dogs' health
for the better, but it had a
deeper impact on the person who had made hard
choices on their dogs' behalf.
I for one stopped following anyone blindly
when I discovered that the advice
I was given by my vet had more to do with
politics than science. It
mattered to me that I could understand why a
vet would give such advice. It
meant that rather than blame the vet, I could
'blame' the system.
It also helped me to have courage in my
decision.
Governments legislate on behalf of me, you
and our animals. Let me give you
a simple example: when Margaret Thatcher was
prime minister of the UK, she
commissioned scientists to discover the
nation's eating habits. The
scientists found that our children were
eating little other than crisps,
chips and chocolate. They were horrified and warned that our
hospitals
would be filled with cancer patients. But rather than do anything about it,
the government suppressed the report. Why?
Because economically it's
better to have a thriving manufacturing base,
churning out processed foods.
(See The Politics of Food by Geoffrey Cannon)
So if children are sacrificed
for the sake of the economy, what hope your
dogs?
Last week I received a letter from a CHC
member. His young GSD had died
after a booster shot. The vet advised the booster, despite the
fact that
the dog had irritable bowel disease and
reacted to the last shot. Trouble
is, despite his misgivings, the CHC member
assumed the vet knew his stuff.
But the vet didn't know his stuff because, rather
than fund veterinary
teaching establishments sufficiently, the
government allows veterinary
teaching establishments to take money from
big business. And big business
takes its funding away if it doesn't like the
curriculum. This man will
probably blame himself until the day he
dies. He will feel personally
responsible for his young dog's death. I think perhaps it might help him to
know that his vet was only doing what he was
taught, and that politics
dictated what he was taught.
Maybe this man is now free of the influence
of politics. Maybe his dogs of
the future won't have to suffer because of
the way the system works. Maybe
he is now in a place where he takes Personal
Responsibility for the
healthcare he allows his dogs to
receive. Maybe the effect will ripple
outwards and make him question the drugs his
doctor gives him, and the food
he puts in his mouth. Maybe he will care about pesticides on his
food, and
fluoride in his water supply.
He may even question his government when they
want to send his grandson to
war. He might seek to find the truth behind
the war. And then he has a
choice - to support his government, or to
disagree with it.
And this is what our dogs have wanted for us
all along: to be masters of our
own destiny, rather than follow blindly. And
this is why we discuss politics
on this list.
I don't know about you, but my dogs are
always on my side. They always want
the best for me. Love is a political issue - it's about having the courage
to look at what is, so that we can take care
of those who trust us.
Love
