"HIV Could Deliver Life-Saving Genes to Cells"
Ottawa Citizen (www.canada.com/ottawa/ottawacitizen) (09/12/02) P. A16; Hawkes, Nigel
Manipulating HIV, which has a unique ability to infiltrate human cells, could eventually lead researchers to a vaccine that uses viral particles with the HIV RNA eliminated. The genes would trigger an immune response without causing an infection. The alternative HIV vaccine could eventually prove more effective than first-generation HIV vaccines that are currently undergoing clinical trials, according to Andrew Lever of the University of Cambridge.
