"Council Forced to Suspend Vaccinations Against Killer Bugs" Tasmanian Mercury (www.themercury.news.com.au) (09/14/02) P. 11; Stubbs, Brett

Vaccination programs that protect against hepatitis B, polio, measles, mumps, rubella, tetanus, and meningococcal disease have been suspended in West Tamar, Tasmania, because its medical health officer retired last year and no replacement can be found to deliver the vaccinations, according to West Tamar mayor Barry Easther.  The West Tamar Council has advertised about the position without a single reply.  Sue Napier, spokesperson for Opposition health, believes the State Government should work with West Tamar to find a suitable person for the position and get immunizations running again to prevent future health problems.
