(09/06/02)
The Haemophilus influenzae, type b, (Hib) and the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccines are now part of the new vaccine regime as prescribed by the Malaysian Health Ministry. Nearly 260,000 children born since May 2002 will be given the two new vaccines, which became available, free of charge, at government health clinics in July. Dr. Hussian Imam, a consultant pediatrician and Head of the Penang Hospital's Pediatric Department, noted that Hib caused at least 50 percent of the childhood meningitis cases in Malaysia.
