In an effort to prevent an outbreak of meningitis, the United Nations High Commission for Refugees, with the help of the World Health Organization, is vaccinating some 1,100 Burundian refugees returning from western Tanzania against the disease.  The vaccination campaign is being held following reports of meningitis in Burundian refugee camps in the western part of Tanzania and also in some parts of northern Burundi. Seventy-seven meningitis cases were reported in the northern provinces of Muyinga and Ruyigi as of the end of August.
