"Anthrax Inoculations of US Troops Resume: Myers"
Agence France Presse (www.afp.com/english/home) (09/20/02)
Gen. Richard Myers, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, told the Senate Armed Services Committee Thursday that the military has resumed its program for giving anthrax shots to U.S. forces being sent to the Gulf. On June 28, the Pentagon said it would give anthrax shots to key personnel being sent to high-threat areas for over 15 days; however, the inoculations did not start until earlier this week. A previous effort to vaccinate all U.S. military personnel against anthrax was limited due to vaccine supply issues, but a new plant in Michigan is now producing thousands of anthrax vaccine doses a month.
