RETIRE – REFUSED ANTHRAX SHOTS – SAYS

Lt. Col. Tom Heemstra was one of America’s best “top-guns.” An Air Force Academy graduate and F-16 squadron commander, the first-rate pilot looked forward to many more years of military service.

But when the Pentagon, under the Bill “I loathe the military” Clinton administration started pushing the forced Anthrax shot program, Heemstra had a crisis of conscience.

Responsible for his 35 assigned pilots and 18 F-16 fighter planes, worth $20 million each, Heemstra felt he could not endanger the lives and health of his men by ordering them to “take the shot.” Nor could he do so himself. During the 2000 election campaign, now Vice President Dick Cheney promised America’s veterans, suffering from eight years abuse and neglect under the Clinton Administration, “HELP IS ON THE WAY!”

We are still waiting, Mr. Vice-President. You, and President George W. Bush, have the opportunity to greatly lift the morale of our troops by halting this ill-conceived and morale-destroying fiasco. Admiral Crowe is rich enough. He has grown fat and happy under his mentor – the “draft-dodger from Arkansas” – there is no justifiable reason to reward the man who politically stabbed the President’s father in the back during the 1992 presidential election.

Show the COURAGE that men like LTC Tom Heemstra have displayed. Do the right thing! Put the lives and well-being of our soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines ahead of money and profit. Your country will be forever grateful, and we –especially the combat veterans of Vietnam who laid their lives on the line in an unpopular cause – will support you until our dying day.
