John D. Clemens, head of the Seoul-based International Vaccine Institute (IVI), is focusing on eliminating infectious diseases from North Korea by providing children in the country with vaccinations.  However, Clemens said that "any timetable for the project in North Korea would depend on when we could obtain necessary funding to initiate the program," and he said he hoped the IVI's work, which thus far has been primarily focused on Asia, could be expanded to Africa by 2007.  Clemens also mentioned the IVI's dedication to biodefense measures involving vaccinations for both developed and undeveloped countries.
