"Uptake of MMR Vaccine Is Still Nearly 25
Percent Below Target Levels" Irish Times (www.ireland.com)
(10/24/02) P. 3; Donnellan, Eithne
Despite consistent assurances of its safety by
the World Health Organization, the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland, and
the Irish Medicines Board, the uptake of the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR)
vaccine among Ireland's children remains nearly 25 percent below targeted
levels, according to Brian Lenihan, the Minister of State at the Department of
Health and Children. Ireland's Childhood Immunization Program is aiming for 95
percent uptake, yet the average is just 72 percent, ranging from 63 percent in
the eastern regions of the country to 82 percent in the mid-western and
northeastern areas.
