"Tanzania: Premier Pledges 90 Percent Reduction on Measles Deaths by Year 2005" BBC Worldwide Monitoring (www.monitor.bbc.co.uk) (10/21/02)
Tanzania's Prime Minister, Frederick Sumaye, pledged to reduce the country's measles mortality rate by 90 percent by the year 2005 as he launched a national campaign against the disease earlier this week. Sumaye said little success has been made so far to eradicate the disease, despite efforts having begun over a decade ago. He urged parents and guardians to have their children vaccinated, including a second dose to ensure their resistance to the disease and to stop the spread of the virus that causes measles.
