"Supermarket Chain Offers Flu Jabs in Stores"
Press Association (UK) (www.pressassociation.press.net) (10/25/02); Richardson, Lesley
Following the popularity of a trial in-store immunization program, the U.K. supermarket chain Asda will offer customers in 81 stores flu shots from mobile medical service Doctorcall in November. Customers will be able to pay for the flu shots at the checkouts and then return to a private area to fill out a questionnaire that is then evaluated by a trained nurse before the vaccine is administered. PowderJect Pharmaceuticals is supplying doses of its Fluvirin flu vaccine to the stores. PowderJect helped Asda with its trial offer, and in most locations, the doses sold out within hours. Influenza and complications from the disease take the lives of up to 4,000 people a year in the United Kingdom, PowderJect said.
