"Senegal: Two Dead From Yellow Fever"

Africa News Service (www.allafrica.com) (10/14/02)

The World Health Organization (WHO) reports two deaths related to yellow fever in Senegal, with 15 more cases confirmed by Senegal's Ministry of Health in the country's central Diourbel region.  A mass vaccination campaign against the disease began in the area on Oct. 1, and so far 322,000 people have received the vaccine.  The WHO is requesting additional doses of the vaccine in order to protect the entire targeted population in the Diourbel region, and the International Coordinating Group on Vaccine Provision, Medecins sans Frontieres, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, and UNICEF are working to meet this request.
