The LagosState government is launching a National
Polio Immunization campaign targeting nearly 3 million children between the ages
of six months and three years. The State Commission for Health, Dr. Lekan Pitan
said the state has adopted four strategies for achieving its goal of eradicating
polio: strengthening routine immunizations, undertaking national immunization
days, holding supplemental immunization days, and acute flaccid paralysis
surveillance. The immunization campaign will also provide vitamin A supplements
to boost the children's immunity and prevent night blindness.
