"Polio Eradication Drive to Begin on October 21"
Economic Times of India (www.economictimes.com) (10/16/02)
World Health Organization surveillance medical officer V.K. Jalgaonkar said that a house-to-house polio immunization campaign in the Rajkot district of India will begin Oct. 21 and last through Oct. 26. The campaign will target all children under the age of five years. According to Jalgaonkar, 526 cases of polio have been recorded in India, with 12 of those cases occurring in Gujarat. "This mop-up round has been organized to destroy the left out polio viruses," Jalgaonkar said. A second round of polio immunizations will begin on Nov. 25.
