"Phase I Trials for Cholera Vaccine Encouraging"
Economic Times of India (www.economictimes.com) (10/07/02)
The National Institute of Cholera and Enteric Diseases and Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute (PGI), both in India, are conducting extended phase II clinical trials of an oral cholera vaccine. In the first phase of clinical trials, for which results are available for 12 volunteers, the vaccine generated an eightfold increase in antibody titres in 42 percent of the cases. "An increase in the antibody titre is a positive sign as far as the efficacy of the oral cholera vaccine is concerned," said Dr. Amit Ghosh, director of the Institute of Microbial Technology.
