"Parents Need More Info on Hepatitis A"
United Press International (www.upi.com) (10/30/02); Beck, Ellen
A new survey from the American Liver Foundation (ALF) reveals that 43 percent of U.S. parents are not aware that hepatitis A is linked to severe liver problems and 40 percent do not know that the disease can be fatal. Most of the surveyed parents were also not aware how hepatitis A is transmitted. With about 200,000 cases of hepatitis A per year, the ALF is calling for increased education for parents about the disease, so they will take their children to get vaccinated.
