THE Davao City Health Office denied reports that the recent deaths in
Marilog and Pacquibato districts were caused by measles.
City Health Officer Roberto Alcantara said his doctors had only
discovered cases of pneumonia and that the report that more than 30
people have died was false.
Dr. Alcantara said even representatives of the Indigenous Peoples Sacred
Heart Parish denied they ever said more than 30 had died, as what came
out in the papers.
Nevertheless, Dr. Alcantara said two teams have been dispatched anew to
Marilog and Paquibato to check on the reported rise of deaths in the
areas.
He said one team comes from the CHO and the other is from the regional
office of the Department of Health.
Alcantara send the teams after the CHO was disturbed anew with the
reports that some 33 people have actually died in the two barangays from
August to September.
The report was submitted by the same NGO group to Councilor Nilo
Abellera, chair of the Sangguniang Panlungsod committee on health.
Acting on the report, Abellera urged the CHO to investigate the matter
and send medicines to the two farflung barangays of Davao City.
