"Influenza Vaccination Is Not Associated With a
Reduction in the Risk of Recurrent Coronary Events" American Journal of
Epidemiology (www.aje.oupjournals.org)
(10/02) Vol. 156, No. 7, P. 634; Jackson, Lisa
A.; Yu. Onchee; Heckbert, Susan R.
One of the factors scientists have suggested in
acute cardiac events is influenza. A recent study sought to gauge the
relationship between heart attack survivors inoculated against influenza and
recurrent coronary events. The study enrolled 1,378 patients who had survived a
first myocardial infarction between 1992 and 1996, who were then followed for a
median of 2.3 years for their risk of recurrent coronary events. The
researchers concluded that no association existed, either for the period of
November to October, or for the influenza period between November and April.
