INTERNATIONAL IMMUNIZATION NEWS

"A Good Night's Sleep Can Make Flu Vaccine More Effective" London Sunday Times (www.sunday-times.co.uk) (10/27/02) P. 36; Balfour, Nicolas

A small study of the influenza vaccine was arranged so that 11 men had their sleep restricted for a week before they were vaccinated against the flu, while the other 14 men were allowed to follow their normal sleep patterns.  Testing 10 days after vaccination indicated that the sleep-deprived men had an immune response that was less than half as strong as that shown by the men who had normal sleep patterns prior to immunization.
