"Ebola Vaccine Will Enter Human Trials Within
Months"

(10/03/02); Ault, Alicia
The director of the National Institute of
Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), Dr. Anthony Fauci, announced Thursday
that a vaccine against the Ebola virus will begin human clinical trials within
the next six months to eight months. The focus on bioterrorism and financing of
such projects has allowed researchers to speed up the development process of a
vaccine against the disease, Fauci said at a meeting of the World Medical
Association in Washington. NIAID is providing the Dutch biotechnology company
Crucell with Ebola genes used in the vaccine, with the company retaining the
exclusive right to sell the completed vaccine.
