Complaint over vaccine trials

An American woman has said she is mystified as to why she was used for vaccine trials at an Irish mother-and-baby home 40 years ago.

Mary Steed has claimed she received medical records from a nun at the Bessboro home in County Cork which detail the experimental injections she was given in 1961.

She was adopted by an American family the following year, but has now returned to Ireland and been reunited with her natural mother for the first time.

Ms Steed told Cork 96fm that she had lodged a formal complaint with the Laffoy Commission into child abuse, complaining that she had been used as a human guinea pig.
