City reorders flu shots

WILKES-BARRE - The city has placed an order for a second batch of flu vaccines because at least part of the original batch was improperly stored and might have been frozen. Frozen vaccines are ineffective in preventing the flu but pose no health risk, said Dr. John Consalvo, the city's medical director.

The vaccines in questions were discarded and have not been administered to residents said Consalvo. Replacements are expected to arrive this week and flu vaccine clinics will continue as scheduled.

Residents wishing to be vaccinated a second time must wait three weeks from the date of the original vaccine. To find out when and where vaccines are available check the city calendar or call the health department at 208-4268.
